Just before Christmas I completed motion graphics, editing and VFX work on the book trailer for the French Language release of Giles Kristian's award winning novel, 'Where Blood Runs Cold'
Entitled 'Ta Seule Issue' this was an adaptation of the trailer we created for the English language release, that was Directed by Philip Stevens with a score by Jonny Gillard.
Working alongside the team at HarperCollins France, we amended the textual content, primary colour palette, branding and typography to better align with the French language release. Additionally, the video was reedited and mixed to match the new and adapted content.
Like the original version, I used a combination of Adobe After Effects, Blender 3D, Photoshop, Premiere and DaVinci Resolve I created a number of 2D cards (video, stills and custom character animations) and 3D cameras to simulate 3D parallax. Particle layers and systems were then used to give atmospheric depth whilst helping to transition between compositions. Lastly, custom grunge maps, vignettes and LOOKs were developed and applied in DaVinci Resolve to give the trailer an overall textural granularity and patina, mimicking the cold, rugged beauty of the locations described in the book.
Please take a look at the trailer below, and whether you are a French or English language reader, I highly recommend taking a look at this excellent and powerful book, which recently won the 2022 Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Prize.
